Ather Zia’s article “Block List”, is a commentary on Facebook’s role in silencing Kashmiri voices of dissent following the annexation of Kashmir in August 2019.

Zia argues that dissenting Kashmiri voices long resorted to social media for online activism, the shadow-banning by Facebook resulted in discreetly continuing resistance and showing solidarity by converting profile pictures into images of a red circle.
